Data Driven Dialogue

Data-Driven Dialogue is a collaborative method for utilizing data to create actionable goals used in the District based on the work by Bruce Wellman and Laura Lipton published in their 2004 book Data-Driven Dialogue: A Facilitator’s Guide to Collaborative Inquiry.

Phase 1: Predictions and Assumptions

What do we think we know that helps us predict?

Phase 2: Explore and Observe

Phase 3: Explain
  1. Looking at your data wall, and choose 2 or 3 areas or issue you want to study further
  2. Formulate 10 – 15 explanations or theories of causation as possible
  3. Post those on your data wall
  4. Share with the other table and discuss how you arrived at these ideas
  5. As a team, narrow your focus to one area or issue of the three
    1. By addressing this issue, the result would be increased student achievement
  6. Expand your list until you have at least 20 testable explanations
  7. Choose 1 or 2 for Phase 4: Action

Phase 4: Action
  1. Summarize needs in the data.
  2. Develop a SMART goal.
  3. Begin building your Action Plan Template with your teams.
